Pre-Cut Sauna material packages are "ready to go" sauna kits for the contractor and do-it-yourselfer. These saunas can be installed in a pre-framed and insulated room. Pre-cut saunas are ideal for new construction and remodeling projects.
Cedar T&G for walls and ceiling, pre-hung insulated door, pre-built benches, ductboard kit, heater and accessories and complete plans.
1. Plan the size of your room -- saunas can be virtually any size or shape. Hint: If you enjoy lying down in your sauna, allow 6' in at least one direction.
2. Plan the door location and direction of its swing. A sauna door must swing out of the room. not into the room. Hint: For a better layout of the benches, put your door and heater on a long wall next to each other, if possible.
3. Plan the location of your heater, preferably on the door wall.
4. Plan the bench layout: Width is 18"; height is either 40" (upper) or 20" (lower). Hint: You are either sitting or lying down in your sauna so include maximum benching as space permits; and note that the upper bench is the warmer bench. Double-wide lower benches are optional.
Where: Your sauna can be anywhere -- in a basement, garage, bathroom. attic or under a staircase.
Ceiling Height: Recommended inside height is 6'6" to 7'. Heated air is wasted above that height. If you are building a drop ceiling, use 2X4 studs on 16" centers.
Wall Construction: Build any new walls with 2X4 studs on 16" centers, including against cement walls.
Insulation: Use an insulation with a minimum R-factor of R-11 in walls and R-19 in ceiling.
Floor: Concrete, vinyl linoleum, or tile are suitable surfaces. Your package will include a removable cedar ductboard kit for your feet to walk on.
Sheet-rock: Check your local building code to determine if it is required.
Vapor Barrier: A sauna is basically a dry heat with the addition of moisture to the air when water is sprinkled on the rocks. If you prefer a steamy atmosphere and are constantly adding water to the rocks, you may want to use foil-backed insulation, moisture resistant sheet-rock, or a polyethylene film (like Visqueen) under the T&G (tongue and groove).
Drain: In most residential situations, a drain is not necessary.
Door Opening: Frame in a 24" x 82" rough opening for your door. Quotes are available for custom sizes. Cedarbrook Sauna doors are pre-hung in a jamb and are self-closing. Remember, the door swings out, not into the room. Door window size options are: 10" x 10", 10" x 18", or 65" x 15".
Venting: Proper venting is necessary for the input of fresh oxygen and to create air flow for the efficient operation of your heater. Note: Tylö heaters require vents because of Tylö's flow-through design. With Polar heaters venting is optional.
Shipping information: We ship complete rooms and kits via common carrier truck --heater and accessories only orders via UPS. Our Prefabs are shipped knocked down with pre-made insulated wall sections plus instructions for an easy installation. These rooms "Free-Stand" in any basement, bedroom, bathroom or garage. The Materials Packages are shipped in bundles for you to build your sauna a piece at a time. (Benches are pre-built and the door is pre-hung). Freight is extra on all items, check with us for cost, location and availability. Heaters and generators are stocked in Pennsylvania, Minnesota, and Washington warehouses. Redwood products are F.O.B.
